Increase of Austrian Toll Costs
New toll tariffs from 01st May 2008 (www.asfinag.at)
For all vehicles with a maximum permissible gross weight (hzG) exceeding 3.5 t on Austrian motorways and expressways new tariffs will be coming into effect on 1 May 2008.
The Bundesstraßen-Mautgesetz (the Austrian Federal Road Tolls Act) as amended provides for an index adjustment of the distance-based toll tariffs for all motor vehicles with a maximum permissible gross weight exceeding 3.5t according to which the net toll tariffs are to be adjusted to the consumer price index which this year amounts to 2.2%.
The new tariffs for using the Austrian motorways and expressways shall enter into effect on 1 May 2008 for all motor vehicles with a maximum permissible gross weight that exceeds 3.5 t.
For category 2 (two axles) this will amount to net EUR 0.158/km (instead of previously EUR 0.155/km), for category 3 (three axles) it will be net EUR 0.2212/km (instead of previously 0.217/km) and for category 4+ (four and more axles) it will be net EUR 0.3318/km (instead of previously EUR 0.3255/km).
The figures correspond to the amendment of the Mauttarifverordnung (Toll Tariff Ordinance), Federal Law Gazette II, No. 124/2008 of 10 April 2008.
New is also that from 1 May 2008 onward the net toll tariffs of the individual toll sections are to be rounded off to two positions behind the decimal point (full cents) whereas previously the amounts were rounded off to full ten cents. This means that e.g. the smallest tariff for the shortest toll section will in future be EUR 0.06 (instead of previously EUR 0.10).
